GMAIL Integration

From June 2022 Gmail requires OAUTH2 to run - - these steps below may not work. If you are wanting this feature, then please speak to influence.

Normally in order to send Journals (emails) from Influence we rely on the local MS Outlook client to send the email.
This allow users to send emails (using Outlook) and also to Sync emails by dragging/dropping received items from Outlook into the Influence database.

However it is possible to use GMail (Google) instead as a send Only solution.

THIS IS CURRENTLY IN BETA AND ALTHOUGH IT SEEMS TO WORK IN MOST INSTANCES IT IS NOT CURRENTLY AN OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED FACILITY.

After Version 1.00.17.339 it is possible for users to access their own SMTP settings directly using the My Profile feature. You can find out more HERE

System Setup

Pre-Requisites  (these will be done by your Influence support provider)
In order to use Gmail integration the "Chilkat" program libraries will need to be installed on the server.
This is usually done as part of the initial installation of your Influence database, but if not, these program libraries will need to be installed
(by Influence)

System Parameters

Select Maintenance > Setup > Parameters, open the JournalB parameter set.
Set parameter JournalB, Text(3) as smtp.gmail.com (SMTP server for SMTP email via Chilkat)
Set parameter JournalB, Flag(2) as Y (Use SSL(Y)/TLS(T) for Chilkat SMTP)

 

Setting Gmail Integration for Each User

Login as the user ADM, and choose Maintenance > setup > User Profiles
Click [...] and choose the UserID
Select the user, then choose the [SMTP Email] TAB.

Set the Account  (i.e. their email address, e.g. john.smith@youremail.com )
Set the Password (i.e. the password for their email account, e.g. Password123! )

Repeat the above process for each user in your influence database who needs to use Gmail as their email provider.)
